What Is Pre-Prosthetic Surgery?
Oral prosthetics, like full and partial dentures, are a common solution for replacing missing teeth, but they can be difficult to wear if the underlying jawbone is rough, uneven, or has deteriorated. At Sexton Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Drs. Sexton, Weiskopf, and Russ perform pre-prosthetic surgery to reshape the upper or lower bony ridge and smooth uneven areas after tooth extractions. This procedure prepares the mouth for a more comfortable, secure, and functional denture fit. To learn more about how pre-prosthetic surgery can benefit you before receiving dentures, contact our practice in Memphis, TN to schedule a consultation with our experienced team.
How Is Pre-Prosthetic Surgery Performed?
Pre-prosthetic surgery will be tailored to your individual needs. Drs. Sexton, Weiskopf, and Russ will evaluate your jaw and use advanced 3D imaging to assist in the treatment planning and procedure stages. Sedation and anesthesia options will be discussed beforehand to ensure you remain relaxed and comfortable during the process. Treatment may involve bone and gum reduction, bone grafting, tooth extractions, or other minor oral surgery procedures. If needed, sutures will be placed to protect the surgical areas as they heal. We will go over all the details with you when building your treatment plan so you will know what to expect every step of the way.
What Are the Benefits of Pre-Prosthetic Surgery?
Pre-prosthetic surgery offers several benefits that enhance the fit and comfort of dentures. Additional benefits include:
- Improves the stability of dentures
- Enhances comfort by smoothing rough or uneven bone
- Reduces the risk of denture-related sores and irritation
- Facilitates better chewing and speaking abilities
- Prepares the jawbone for long-term denture wear
Sexton Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Reviews
Dr. Weiskopf is a great surgeon and a very kind person. I had a molar extraction. He did a fantastic job. He knows what he is doing. I would recommend him to anyone for his expertise. In addition, his entire office staff is excellent, kind, patient, helpful. It makes the whole experience very pleasant, takes away the stress. Thank you, Dr. Weiskopf.
Dr. Weiskopf removed my wisdom teeth and 1 additional molar yesterday. I have horrible experiences with dentists over the past 40+years! This man is amazing. His team is incredible and truly 1 of a kind. I will forever be grateful for their kindness, professionalism and painless care.
Five star service from the beginning of my relationship to the present time. Staff alone are five stars. I have never seen a friendlier or kinder staff. Dr Weiskopf is super wonderful; friendly, informative and open to any and all questions. Being a professor at the University of Tennessee dental college, is an added bonus for his patients. He can give a mini CE on whatever dental topic you are interested in seeking information. Can you tell that I am thrilled to have found such a great oral surgeon? And I am a picky person. I would recommend Dr. Weiskopf to anyone who needs an experienced oral surgeon with great bedside manner and follow up. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and it was such a pleasant experience. I was terrified but the doctor and staff gave me a great sense of ease. The office was very clean and the location was perfect. 10/10.
Very kind and professional. Easy to work with. Very positive experience.
